Introduction
The students who have completed Auxiliary Nursing and Family Welfare Training course are mainly employed in health care service centers, private and public hospitals and care centers. The role of an auxiliary nurse is to provide assistance to qualified nurses in administering the care to the patients. Often, auxiliary nurses as referred as health assistants. They require academic qualifications in order to become a certified auxiliary nurse.
The main responsibility of an auxiliary nurse is to make sure patients are kept safely as far as possible. An auxiliary nurse dresses and washes the incapable patients, feeds them at the time of meal and help the patients who face difficulty in walking to get around. Auxiliary nurses also help the patients who are disabled and elderly with bathroom chores. An auxiliary nurse may also assign to assess the health condition of the patient by measuring weight, taking temperatures and assessing the levels of respiration. Apart from that, she also performs some minor medical procedures and assessment of blood pressure levels. Auxiliary nurses will make the beds of the patients, change the sheets as needed and assist with the general upkeep of the hospital.
Auxiliary nurses can also work with the health care scientists, by providing assistance in the identification and treatment of wide range of diseases. Some of the works with audiologist such as helping the qualified scientists in respect of research hearing and developed the disorders with effective strategies for the patients. Auxiliary nurses also help and assist the health care scientist to analyze the urine and blood samples as well as the history of the patient.
Auxiliary nurses are also engaged in performance of the clinic support roles under the effective supervisions of the healthcare professionals that includes pediatricians, physiotherapists, nutritionists, speech and language therapists etc. The duties of an auxiliary nurse may vary depending upon the form of the therapy administered. The Nurse may require helping the patients to mentally prepare themselves for a therapy session and set up certain equipment needed for a session. Apart from that, they may also be more proactive in assisting role of the therapist in actual therapist. These nurses play a dominant role in administrative duty, keeping accurate records and taking notes of the medical history of the records. While performing the aforesaid duties, the auxiliary nurses sometimes may be called as therapist helpers or assistant therapists.
In healthcare industry, auxiliary nurses typically work under the standard hours of working and shift patterns which may be evening, weekend, morning depending upon the areas of specialization. Flexible shift and part-time shift patterns are tend to more liable in the roles of scientific research as reported by the careers of nursing council.
Most roles in the auxiliary nursing in India are education based. However, sometimes auxiliary nursing is said to be inspired from British as India was ruled by the British Government in the past.
