Which nursing courses are required for building your career in healthcare?

Introduction

Nursing courses are one of the challenging career choices these days due to the increase needs of health care professionals in India. Students want to go to best nursing colleges in India to get best nursing degree for their career. Some of the top nursing colleges are located in Kolkata.  The following are some of the nursing coursed which are required to build a career in health care;

Diploma in Nursing

Diploma in Nursing is a one-year training course which can be pursued after completion of 12th class in India.

Some of the popular diploma courses in nursing programs are ANM and GNM courses. A student required to secure a minimum of 50% aggregate in 10th as well as 12th class to be eligible for such diploma program of nursing.

However, some of the diploma nursing course require at least 2 years of work experience post pursuing GNM course.

Most of the nursing colleges in Kolkata offer diploma in nursing courses on the basis of merit. Apart from that no entrance exams conducted for diploma course in nursing colleges.

GNM Nursing

The full form of GNM nursing is General Nursing and Midwifery. This is one of the popular diploma nursing programs.

The aforesaid course is for three-and-a-half-years. Students taking admissions into this course must do a six-month internship program in the last six months.

Student getting a minimum of 40% in aggregate of all the subjects in 12th and 10th class are eligible for the admission in GNM nursing colleges.

Students who have already pursued ANM nursing course and secured the required qualifying marks and have done any vocational course  conducted by NIOS or CBSE or state boards are eligible to take admission for GNM nursing courses.

For GNM nursing admission, the minimum and maximum age limit is 17 years and 35 years respectively.

ANM Nursing

The full form of ANM nursing is Auxiliary Nursing midwifery. This is yet another popular diploma in nursing programs.

The aforesaid course is for two years. Students taking admissions into this course must do a six-month internship program in the last six months.

The students from science and arts stream with the minimum qualifying as mentioned by the ANM nursing colleges in 10th and 12th class are eligible to take admission into ANM nursing colleges.

For ANM nursing admission, the minimum and maximum age limit is 17 years and 35 years respectively.

B. Sc Nursing 

Sc nursing is a professional degree nursing program of 4 years. It can be pursued after 12th class and successfully qualifying the B. Sc nursing entrance exams.

Apart from B. Sc nursing, Hons in B. Sc nursing is also available in some of the nursing colleges in Kolkata, however, the eligibility, duration and criteria may differ.

For B. Sc nursing admission, the minimum and maximum age limit is 17 years and 35 years respectively. Apart from that, the candidate has to be medically fit.

The eligibility for admission into B. Sc nursing depends upon securing minimum aggregate marks of 45% in 10+2 with English as compulsory subject and major of PCB (Physics, Chemistry and Biology).

M. Sc Nursing

MSc Nursing is a professional postgraduate degree program after completion of B. Sc nursing. It can be done with specializations including psychiatric nursing, medical-surgical nursing, pediatric nursing and mental health nursing etc.

The eligibility criteria for M. Sc Nursing are completion of B. Sc nursing from a recognized nursing college with securing minimum aggregate marks of 55%.

A candidate must be a registered nurse from any state nurse registration council.
