General Nursing & Midwifery or GNM course is a 3 Year diploma course structured for students who want to pursue their career in the nursing profession. The program helps to teach the candidates how to care for an individual who is sick or has been injured in order to help them fully recover. During this 3 years tenure of studentship, they will do practically an internship in Nursing Homes, Hospitals, and even Private Medical Firms and Companies by getting admitted through top private nursing schools  & top private nursing colleges. After completion of the GNM course after their GNM admission in Kolkata, a candidate will be a Registered Nurse (RN). If the candidate is domiciled, then there is no need to change registration. But if the candidate is not domicile, then after the completion of the GNM course, students first get registration from that state from where he/she completed the course (GNM). After getting registration from that state, students have to apply for registration change to that State Nursing Council where he/she wants to work as a Registered Nurse. To change over the registration, it will take 18 months to 24 months.

GNM Admissions in West Bengal are done through entrance exams at the state level. Most of the Indian states have specific admission departments that conduct the procedures for entrance exams for the GNM Nursing course from Top GNM Nursing schools.

Students of all streams especially in their final Class 12th can be eligible to pursue the GNM Nursing course as a profession, though Science students with Biology as a subject are the most suitable. However, some of the top GNM colleges often require a minimum of 60% marks though in their Class 12th’s most other colleges often ask for the bare minimum of 50% marks as a qualification.
