Everyone requires assistance from time to time and while many seniors rely on the support of their friends and family members for support, sometimes it becomes necessary to seek out additional assistance or even long-term care. Senior citizens often suffer from ailments or any physical problem often finding themselves in the need of a little extra help in their daily lives can actively benefit from the services of a caregiver, but they may not always be available for long-term care. In this case, a private home caregiver can be the next best option.

“Caregiver” is a term that refers to anyone who is qualified as a nursing assistant & cares for any person who requires extra help. This could mean a family caregiver, an elderly caregiver, a home-stay caregiver, or a primary caregiver, just to state a few. In the context of elderly care, this job title typically refers to an individual that specializes in-home caregiving or senior caregiving needs. As the name implies, an in-home caregiver performs care-related activities in the home of the individual for his/her personal care, typically related to one’s everyday life, and eases the caregiver burden of the family member in need of assistance. These professionals may not work under the direction of a doctor or nurse and are not typically considered healthcare professionals, though there may be few exceptions to the case. For example, a homestay caregiver may perform physical therapy, provide medical assistance, or any other healthcare services as needed.

The two major factors for highlighting the need for hiring a caregiver are i) desire for assistance & independence and ii) the ability to stay in one’s own home and given care needs. While residential care facilities are usually the primary choice for many seniors, not all people in this particular age group have the desire to leave their current homes and move into an institutionalized healthcare setting. Caregivers often facilitate their need as a midway point between a complete independent situation and life in a residential care facility. Seniors who need some extra assistance and care but still feel comfortable handling most of their own affairs tend to fare well when they find the right caregiver according to their needs.
